Summary

Lower 48 Energy (L48) is a UK based BESS development platform. We are accelerating the clean energy transition by developing and deploying BESS assets at strategic locations in the UK.

Our vision is to develop and own a UK Battery Storage portfolio of 250 MW in the next 2-3 years, expanding into further European territories and delivering a capacity of 1GW of capacity in the next 5-7 years.

At the end of last year, Castleton Commodities International (CCI) acquired a majority stake in Lower 48 Energy.

CCI is a leading global energy commodities merchant and infrastructure asset investor headquartered in Stamford, USA with European offices in London and Geneva.

Lower 48 Energy is constructing its first project, a 45 MW, 90 MWh in Preston, Lancashire with COD in Q2 2025 and is working on two more projects to start design in 2024.

Lower 48 Energy’s organic pipeline is 800 MW in various stages of development.

Engineering Manager

Lower 48 Energy is looking for an experienced Power System Engineer to join our company as ‘Engineering Manager’

The Engineering Manager will play a critical role in driving the design, development, and deployment of our BESS projects, ensuring they meet technical requirements, quality standards, and project timelines.

The Engineering Manager will work closely with senior executives, contributing technical expertise and supervision technical / engineering aspects of project advancement

In addition to establishing, streamlining and adopting in-house engineering strategies for development of BESS schemes, the engineering manager will closely work with Chief Technology Officer for qualifying and assessing ICPs, HV contractors, and Battery OEMs.

Key responsibilities include

• Lead and manage engineers and technical staff in the design, development, and implementation of Battery Energy Storage Systems.
• Oversee the entire lifecycle of BESS projects from conceptualization to commissioning, ensuring adherence to technical specifications, regulatory requirements, and safety standards.
• Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams including  project management, and operations to ensure seamless project execution and delivery.
• Conduct technical evaluations and assessments to optimize BESS designs and enhance project performance.
• Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance engineering processes, methodologies, and best practices.
• Serve as a technical expert and provide guidance on complex engineering issues, troubleshooting, and problem-solving.
• Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and excellence within the engineering team.
• Stay abreast of industry trends, technological advancements, and regulatory developments in the energy storage sector.

Required Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• Minimum of 8 years of experience in engineering roles within the utilities, renewable energy, or energy storage industry.
• Proven track record of working in multidisciplinary engineering teams in the successful delivery of complex projects.
• Strong technical expertise in renewable energy, including knowledge of batteries, power systems, and power engineering.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to think strategically to overcome technical challenges.
• Knowledge of relevant regulatory standards and safety protocols in the energy industry.
• Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex technical concepts to diverse stakeholders.
• Experience working with external partners, suppliers, and contractors to support project objectives.

Lower 48 Energy would like to position as an innovative engineering & development company and therefore the position is vital in order to add value to the company and its operations.

The position will be supported by 1-2 engineers to support Engineering Manager initially and the team can grow in time.
